Professor Gombosi Named 2017 AGU James Van Allen Lecturer

testClimate & Space is very pleased to announce that Professor Tamas Gombosi, Konstantin I. Gringauz Distinguished University Professor of Space Science, has been selected to give the James Van Allen Lecture at the 2017 Fall Meeting of the American Geophysical Union this coming December in New Orleans.

The honor of presenting the James Van Allen Lecture is given to a space scientist that has made significant contributions in the field of Magnetospheric Science, and was created to recognize the life and work of astrophysicist and space pioneer, James A. Van Allen.

The lecture is part of the Space Physics and Aeronomy section named lecture series, and is presented two out of every three years at the AGU Fall Meeting. The lecture is also webcast and made available as an archived presentation on the AGU website.

In addition, the James Van Allen Lecture is a part of the Bowie Lecture Series, which was inaugurated in 1989 to commemorate the 50th presentation of the William Bowie Medal, which is AGU’s highest honor and named for its first president. James Van Allen is a past recipient of the William Bowie medal.
