The UM E-Field Sensor

Introduction

Our innovative E-field sensor was originally developed for science applications with funding from the National Science Foundation. After successful laboratory and field tests of a prototype sensor, a space flight version started being developed in collaboration with JPL and with funding from NASA’s Planetary Instrument Development and Definition Program. After a presentation at the Electrostatics 2007 Conference, we realized that our E-field sensor was orders of magnitude more sensitive that any other on the market and therefore has a tremendous potential for industrial applications. A commercial version of a second-generation version of the UM E-field sensor started being developed with funding from the Michigan Universities Commercialization Initiative.
